🦤 Juvenile gulls

🔸️ They have mottled brown feathers for their first year or two, unlike the clean white and gray coloring of adults
🔸️ They Built for gliding efficiently over open water.

About gulls
👉 They are highly adaptable and intelligent seabirds.

👉 Their diet is very varied: fish, shellfish, small animals, and even human food scraps.

👉 Many species take 3-4 years to reach full adult plumage.

👉 And they’re excellent soarers, using air currents over the sea to conserve energy.

A short walk from the Guildhall and the historic Derry City Walls, the Peace Bridge is a modern landmark in Derry, Northern Ireland.

Opened in 2011, the 235-metre bridge connects Ebrington Square with the city centre across the River Foyle. More than just a crossing, it symbolises unity and has become a vibrant part of daily life and city events.

MV Irish Trader, which ran aground in 1974 on Baltray Beach, near to Drogheda.

She had departed Sharpness, on the Bristol Channel, carrying 410 tonnes of fertiliser when she ran aground close to her destination. Despite being so near to port, the exact reasons for the grounding have never been fully clarified.

Over the decades, the twice-daily tides of the Irish Sea have steadily broken the wreck apart. By 2011, when photographed at Baltray, only skeletal remains of the hull were still visible at low tide. Today, even less survives.

Because the wreck lies on soft sands and is fully exposed at high tide, visitors must carefully check tide tables and only approach during low tide, both for access and safety.

It’s a striking reminder of how quickly the sea reclaims what is left in its path.

Baily Lighthouse stands on Howth Head, overlooking Dublin Bay and guiding ships safely toward Dublin Port.

It was first established in the seventeenth century and the present granite lighthouse was built in the early nineteenth century after the original light proved unreliable in poor weather.
It remained staffed longer than any other Irish lighthouse and is now fully automated.

The lighthouse is also known for its scenic coastal setting, popular with walkers exploring Howth. Its historic lens is displayed at the National Maritime Museum of Ireland in Dún Laoghaire.
